Featuring...

This
week
we are pleased to feature Sunnybrook Ranch and
Rebecca Bruce of Santa Barbara, CA. Rebecca finished
up her outstanding junior riding career in November of 2005, not
only competing consistently but also participating in The Learning
Channel’s reality series “L.A. Riding Club”. Not
wasting a second, she turned professional this past January and
hit the ground galloping.
She took
a barn full of students to the LAEC Opener and rode away with multiple
show championships including the First Year and Modified Hunters as
well as the Rusty and Short Stirrup divisions. Several of her students
qualified for the Onondarka Medal Finals. Rebecca then headed off
to Indio for Weeks I and II to work for Mary Gatti and Patrick Spanton
of Rainbow Canyon Ranch, her longtime trainers and now part-time employers.
From there, Rebecca returned home to Santa Barbara to school her own
clients for the Paddock Show and the Gold Coast, again earning multiple
show championships along the way. Taking
advantage of having Week IV of Indio free from riding duties, Rebecca
flew to Canada on Monday and Tuesday, and then to Holland Wednesday
through Sunday to shop for horses. Both trips turned out to be successful.
She was able to find fabulous, reasonably-priced horses in both
countries. This buying trip is one of many she will take to Canada
and Europe this year, with plans to find potential matches for clients
and investments year-round.
“I’ve
been fortunate to grow up riding under the guidance of Rainbow Canyon
Ranch,” explained Rebecca. “From when I was fourteen
and a working student, Patrick and Mary took the time to educate
me on how to bring young horses along and also took me on buying
trips to Europe.” Patrick and Mary have encouraged Rebecca
to build her own business, while still working closely under Rainbow’s
watchful eye. “They were a big help when I went back East
to compete in the medal finals, by letting horses from Sunnybrook
stable and school with Rainbow Canyon at the shows here in California.”
Rebecca
has a clear vision for her professional career. She feels lucky
to have had the opportunity to catch-ride many of the top junior
hunters in the country and would like to carry on that tradition
in the professional ranks. In order to do, she’ll continue
to work with Rainbow and strive to build a reputation as one of
the top hunter riders. “Patrick is my mentor in the hunter
ring.” Rebecca also has a passion for teaching and bringing
along young talent. Many of the students in her barn started out
taking up-down lessons and now are moving into the junior hunter
division.
Sunnybrook’s
motto is to have fun while striving for excellence and although
her new professional life is fast-paced, Rebecca seems to live by
that motto. Not that she has plans to slow down anytime soon. Back
from Europe with several new prospects, Rebecca along with Rainbow
Canyon and Sunnybrook Ranch are competing at the HITS Desert Circuit
Weeks V and VI.
“None
of this would be possible for me without the tireless behind-the-scenes
management my mom Erin does for me and Sunnybrook.” Rebecca
continued, “With all her tremendous help, I can focus on riding,
teaching and traveling. She works so hard and I am so grateful.”
